Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology: University of Massachusetts - Amherst

Biography:

When I first joined the local YMCA, I was thrown into the pool against my own will. I was 2 years old when my mom signed me up for swimming lessons without my consent - how traumatic. Turns out, I can swim just fine, and I grew up enjoying all of the athletic programs the YMCA had to offer. Eventually, my involvement in sports and athletics at a young age steered me towards a career path of health and exercise.

Eager to study the science behind our bodies, movement and incredible capabilities, I earned my B.S. in Kinesiology at UMass - Amherst. I volunteered at local hospitals and bio-mechanics labs, I worked with Division I athletes and coaches, and I found my own passion for outdoor sport climbing along the way. I obtained my CPT right after university; I knew that personal training was the perfect opportunity to combine my enthusiasm for athletics and fitness with my expertise.

I trained at Equinox Sports Club for 3 years before joining the Cambridge YMCA, specializing in injury rehab and elite athletic performance. I believe education is the most important training tool for any athlete with any goal. I’m passionate about teaching clients the fundamentals of bio-mechanics, so that they know how to incorporate functional movement into their every day lives, for the rest of their lives! Please say hello when I’m around, and reach out when you’re ready to start your next fitness journey!

Biography:

My lifelong passion for dance led me to work in fitness. Growing up, I enjoyed sports, and was on dance and XC/track teams. I went to Clark University for a 5 year program, earning a B.A. in Communications and an M.B.A. in Marketing. Upon graduating in 2006, I moved to Boston for marketing work and joined the MIT Ballroom Dance Team. In 2011, I made a career switch and became a Zumba instructor, and then a A.F.A.A. Group Exercise Instructor. I call myself the ‘Boston Zumba Mermaid’ as I used to travel around the area teaching mainly Zumba and Aqua classes, but I am certified to teach everything ranging from Ballet Barre to Tabata Bootcamp!

I became an A.C.E. Certified Personal Trainer in 2014 and an A.C.E. Health Coach in 2018. Under A.C.E. I also earned Senior Fitness and Weight Management specialty certifications. While I work with people of all ages and skill levels, I hope to provide extra support for those in these special populations. Long term weight management and pain-free living are very important and my ultimate goal is to help people develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.

My favorite part of working at the Cambridge YMCA is that every day there is an opportunity to guide people from all walks of life toward a healthier and happier lifestyle. When working with clients, my objective is to listen and create customized plans to help them achieve their wellness goals. Please let me know what I can do to help you!

Education:

Master of Science, Exercise Science: West Texas A&M University
Bachelor of Science, Exercise Science: University of New Hampshire

Certifications:

NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
Precision Nutrition - Level 1

Biography:

My passion for health and wellness began in 1998 when I started with a trainer to improve my athletic ability for competitive sports. In high school my passion continued to grow as I began to enhance my knowledge and implement proper nutrition with my training regimen. I was fortunate enough to know what I wanted for a career from nearly age, and I began to follow my heart to make my passion my career.

I started personal training in 2004 at the University of New Hampshire where I worked with the Nutrition Department and served as the personal trainer for the 30 faculty and staff participants in the Employee Wellness Program. I graduated from UNH in 2006 with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science. After undergrad I began to work at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning.

In 2007 I moved down to Texas to assist in the implementation of the first strength and conditioning program at West Texas A&M University. I went on to graduate with honors with a Masters degree in Exercise Science. After receiving my Masters in 2008, I was offered a full time Strength and Conditioning Coach and Associate Professor position at West Texas, where I worked for 3 years.

My other passion, friends and family, was the driving factor that brought me back to Massachusetts. From 2010-2018 I have held many positions in the health and wellness industry: Health & Wellness Director at Marblehead YMCA, Master Personal Trainer at Manchester Athletic Club, Fitness Manager at Boston Sports Club in Lynnfield, Fitness Director at Boston North Fitness in Danvers, Fitness Director at Cabral Wellness Institute in Back Bay, and a Corporate Wellness Specialist in Boston.

I grew up going to the YMCA in Haverhill, Massachusetts; and I love the idea that I get to share my knowledge and experience with the amazing Cambridge YMCA community! I am fulfilled by helping people live healthier and happier lives, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can help!
