It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Janet Belanger, our beloved Childcare Director, on the morning of December 28, 2021.

Janet Belanger dedicated her life to early childhood education and worked tirelessly to make every child feel welcome. Janet was hired as the Preschool Director in September of 2000, and expanded her role to Child Care Director in July 2011 to oversee not only the Cambridge YMCA Preschool, but also the Afterschool & Summer Programs. Though she never had any children herself, Janet treated each child in her care as though they were her own and was always a compassionate listener when a parent needed support. A dedicated teacher, committed child advocate, and caring mentor, Janet impacted the lives of many hundreds of children, parents, staff, and colleagues who were blessed to know her over the course of her 21-year career at the Cambridge YMCA.

To continue Janet’s legacy of providing early childhood education, the Janet Belanger Memorial Fund has been established at the Cambridge YMCA in her memory. Donations to this fund will be used to provide childcare tuition assistance and scholarships to our child care programs for underprivileged children for many years to come.
