YMCA Philanthropy

Cambridge Family YMCA Giving Programs

Philanthropy at the Cambridge Family YMCA takes many forms:

Annual Campaign

The Annual Campaign is the most common form of giving to the Cambridge Family YMCA. These gifts are typically unrestricted and come from a variety of sources i.e. corporations, local businesses, directors, members and neighbors.  The Annual Campaign supports all programs and activities at the Y and donations are accepted throughout the year.

Memorial and Honorarium Gifts

These are gifts given in memory or in honor of someone you love or admire.  You may designate your contribution toward the annual fund or to a particular program of interest.  In either case, it is a meaningful way to support the Y while showing appreciation to someone you love.

Will

Remembering the Cambridge Family YMCA in your will reduces the taxable portion of your estate and ensures that the good work of the Y will continue in your name in perpetuity.

Life Insurance

For a relatively low monthly or annual cost, you may purchase a life insurance policy naming the Cambridge Family YMCA as the owner and beneficiary. Your policy payments are tax deductible.

In Kind Gifts

Musical Instruments, books, toys, games, computers, art and science materials or equipment that are in good usable condition can be useful and important gifts to our pre-school, After School or our residents of Central House.

Securities

Gifts of securities are appreciated and welcomed.  They are typically  processed through a broker and the value is based on the date of transfer.

Capital Gifts

Capital gifts are made and restricted for specific purposes such as renovations and restorations of our facility.

Now that you know the many ways you can give, here are many reasons to consider why you should give:

  • The Cambridge Family YMCA serves more than 700 children in Youth and Childcare Programs.
  • We annually serve over 300 low-income men with histories of chronic mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse and AIDS and we are the largest supplier of Single Resident Occupancy (SRO) housing for men in the City of Cambridge.  128 Men in need call the YMCA their home.
  • More than 5000 adults use our facility each year for fitness activities.
  • Our youth basketball program enrolls over 450 boys and girls.
  • Our swim team enrolls over 90 boys and girls.
  • More than 400 kids participate in our Summer Programs.
  • We provide over 190 families with financial assistance.
  • Our After School Program includes homework help, swimming, karate, theatre arts, music and drama.
  • This year over 1000 children will learn water safety and swimming techniques.
  • Our Pre School Program is nationally accredited from the National Association for the Education of Young Children - the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals.  Licensed for thirty children aged, 2.9 to 5 years, we are at capacity and work off a waiting list.  Two of the many distinguishing aspects of our Preschool program are, introductory computer training and swim lessons.
  • In May 2003, the City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Historical Commission presented the YMCA with an award for outstanding achievement in historic preservation for the work completed on Durrell Hall, our lovely Victorian theatre that was officially opened in 1897 and re-dedicated in December 2002. During our first years of operation, we hosted, on many occasions to a full house, a variety of theatrical performances, readings, book signings, concerts and plays.
  • Our Education and Resource Center is equipped with 15 computer workstations, each with Internet access.
  • Our facility boasts a men’s health club, women’s health club, nautilus, basketball courts, running track, squash courts, swimming pool, library and theatre.
  • Our programs are designed to meet the needs of all ages, from babies to seniors, and we are firmly committed to change and add programs, as trends in healthcare and lifestyles dictate.
