Aerobics/Yoga Staff and Class Description

PHOEBE BARNES
Meridan Hatha yoga combines traditional Hatha yoga poses with resistance stretching. The poses activate the muscle groups along the meridians of the body (the energy pathways of Chinese Medicine) and the resistance enhances flexibility, muscle tone and a sense of well being. Classes also include partner assists, deep relaxation and centering to honor the peace within. All levels welcome.

WILLIAM BRODER
William holds a yoga teacher certificate from the White Lotus Foundation. He is currently continuing his studies in Iyengar yoga, which emphasizes attention to form and alignment, and has begun studying Viniyoga, which focuses on adapting yoga practice to the needs of each individual. Classes will guide you through an intense but gentle practice, in which yoga is seen not as a form of fitness oriented exercise, but as a way to simultaneously activate and relax the body and mind, bringing improved health and self-awareness.

DEBBERA BLACKWELL
Debbera Blackwell has taught thousands of classes over the past 10 years in a variety of settings. She obtained her first teaching certifcate from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA, and is also a hatha yoga teacher in the Svaroopa style, having studied with Rama Berch at Master Yoga Academy in La Jolla, CA. Attention to alignment, an emphasis on breath, and on the cultivation of awareness and acceptance are hallmarks of her classes.

STRENGTH TRAINING
A total body workout designed to build total body stregth. The class will incorporate hand weights, step tubing and rubber bands

SENIOR SCULPT
This class will strengthen and tone the major muscles in the upper and lower body including abs. Tools used may or may not include hand weights, tubing, dyna-bands and your own body's resistance. All fitness levels are welcome.

JAZZ DANCE
A great way to improve focus, absolute endurance, flexibility, strength, isolation and posture. Designed to enhance, extend and empower the students dance vocabulary with dance combinations and Fosse dance style this class will optimize the aerobic threshold.

AQUACIZE
Cardiovascular and toning exercises in the pool. Low stress to the joints and skeletal system. You do not need to know how to swim in order to participate as this class is conducted primarily in the shallow portion of the pool.

WATER JOGGING
Conducted primarily on the deep water, exercises in this class exert minimal stress to the joints, and are good for the cardiovascular system. Flotation belt is provided for class. Comfort in deep water is advised.
